UK housing project starts fell 7% year-on-year in September 2025, with main contract awards down 47% and detailed planning approvals down 39%. Unsafe cladding has been identified on 5,558 residential buildings over 11m, up by four since August. Midlothian councillors approved a strategy for 1,583 new affordable homes over five years. Muse got planning for 244 homes in West Sussex, and Story Homes will build up to 219 in Brampton. Haringey approved 216 council homes, while Manchester plans 700+ new homes. City and Country Stansted submitted plans for 500+ homes and 20,000sqm of commercial space.
