Hello all.
In the words of the great Alphonsus Cassell – Me mind on fire, me soul on fire, feelin’ hot hot hot.
[Note to Gaz: select applicable before sending]
Well done boys and the German fella – you gave them Argies what for! The ‘Hand of God’ is expunged from our memory forever more.
Get the boats ready boys, we’re going back in. Messi’s hand-selected ref had it in for us from the start. The whole thing was rigged!
Well done, Amy, and Charlie, for braving the heat in Manchester. Sorry I couldn’t be there, but nature (the beach) called. If you did get an opportunity to meet them, please accept my apologies. I will be in Liverpool and have my ticket – thank you CIH.
I wanted to share something cool we’ve been working on behind the scenes: teaching Locarla to automatically work out what trades are included in a notice – repairs, heating, soft fm, security etc.
It sounds simple, but the tricky part is the borderline cases. Is a job “repairs” or “building maintenance”? “Retrofit” or “heating”? Instead of building something huge and complicated to cover every possible overlap, we’ve gone for a simpler approach: teaching the system specific rules for the handful of areas where trades genuinely get confused. It does the job just as well, with far less to go wrong.
Right now, this is being tested internally on our current list of 40-plus trades, and we’re in the process of training it up using real notices. When we’ve cracked that we’ll be training it on a much more detailed list of over 200 trades, so it can be even more precise – something like this:
We don’t have a launch date yet as we need to make sure our system nails it every time. If you’re wondering what happens to the people who currently do this job, don’t fret – we have to hire more people the more we develop the site. We don’t develop these systems to save money; we build them to give you a better service. Our interest is in job creation through AI and anyone who thinks differently is a muppet!
We’re also redesigning the contract notice pages, adding client intelligence panels and contract intelligence. Rather than forcing users to jump between multiple pages, the focus has been on bringing the information together into a single workspace where procurement data, client information and historical context sit alongside the notice itself.
One of the biggest discussions has been around how users actually research contracts. It quickly became clear that displaying data isn’t enough. Users want answers to questions such as “Who is the incumbent?”, “What similar contracts has this client awarded?”, “How does this fit into their wider procurement programme?” and “What happened last time?”. Those conversations have shaped a much richer approach to contract intelligence that goes well beyond the notice itself.
And with that, I’m gone. If you have kids enjoy having them at home for the summer. If you don’t have kids, enjoy having a summer.

June League Tables
Built Environment Contracts – June 2026 Overview
June 2026 reflects a return to more typical market activity following the exceptional peak recorded in January. Total contract value remained relatively modest, indicating a market driven by a steady flow of medium-value opportunities rather than a small number of major awards.
The key takeaway is stability over scale. Contractor wins remained well distributed, reinforcing a competitive and fragmented market where opportunities continue to be spread across a broad range of suppliers rather than dominated by a handful of firms.
Top Contractors (Showing 10 of 50 companies)
Responsive Repairs
June delivered £13.69m – the weakest month in the past year, following the £3.94bn peak in January and £1.74bn in March.
Fortem Solutions climbed two places to rank 8 (£3.61m won), and Bell Group jumped fifteen places to rank 35 (£2.66m won).
Four new entrants broke into the league this month – H & J Construction, Elkins Construction, Westons Group, and KBH Haus – each securing their first contracts.
Interpretation:
A subdued month overall, with limited new contract activity across the market.
Responsive Repairs (Showing 8 of 92 companies)
Planned Works
June closed at £263.29m, a strong rebound from recent months, driven by large-value awards from a handful of contractors.
EQUANS (climbed three places to rank 4) and Sidey Solutions (climbed seven places to rank 12) led the month, backed by two Birmingham City Council contract awards worth a combined £85m and a single £50m Falkirk Council award respectively.
New entrant Torfaen Maintenance Services entered the league at rank 29 with £17.2m across two awards, and Esh Construction jumped thirty places to rank 72 – showing real movement is possible below the top tier.
Interpretation:
A stronger month overall, with high-value awards from a handful of contractors lifting the total well above recent trend.
Planned Works (Showing 10 of 194 companies)
Gas Servicing & Central Heating
At £73.5m, June represents a clear uplift from recent months, although activity remains below the historic peaks seen in March 2025 and February 2026.
PH Jones and MSB Group Mechanical & Electrical led the market by number of awards, with three contract wins each.
Several high-value awards, including those to Castle Point Gas & Heating, Broad Oak Properties and Ian Williams, lifted overall market value.
Interpretation:
June signals a rebound in investment, with larger contract awards returning after several months of subdued activity.
Gas Servicing & Central Heating (Showing 10 of 102 companies)
Voids
June activity fell back to £4.45m, making it one of the quieter months of 2026 following the exceptional February peak.
June’s contract awards were evenly distributed across contractors, while the highest-value awards were secured by Certus Construction Group and Palm (Yorkshire)
The month was characterised by a series of relatively small and mid-sized contracts, with no major programme driving overall value.
Interpretation:
June’s lower value reflects the absence of large portfolio awards rather than a slowdown in procurement activity.
Voids (Showing 9 of 89 companies)
Fire Safety
Fire Safety procurement remained resilient in June, with contract value reaching £37.7m despite easing from the stronger activity seen in March and April.
CLC Contractors secured the highest number of contract awards in June, while Harmony Fire recorded the month’s highest-value award at £10m.
A mix of fire protection, compliance and specialist installation projects sustained activity across the month.
Interpretation:
Fire safety remains a compliance-led market, with investment continuing through planned programmes rather than one-off major procurements.
Fire Safety (Showing 10 of 163 companies)
Roofing
Roofing procurement lost momentum in June, with contract value falling to £9.45m following the elevated activity seen in February and March.
The M&J Group secured two contract awards during June, while P K Hygiene Services recorded the month’s largest contract at £4.17m.
June was characterised by a mix of smaller contracts, with few high-value awards entering the market.
Interpretation:
Procurement activity remained active, but the absence of major awards resulted in a quieter month by value.
